Kelly was born and raised in Willmar, Minnesota, graduating from Willmar High School. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota at Morris, with high distinction, and then attended William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, graduating magna cum laude.
After graduating from law school and being admitted to practice law in the state courts in Minnesota, Kelly was a product development attorney for five years for Bankers Systems, Inc. (now Wolters Kluwer), where she helped develop legal solutions for financial institutions. After marrying her husband, who was born and raised in Alexandria, Kelly joined Johnston Law Office, P.A. (now Johnston & Brouillard, P.A.) in 2005.
Kelly focuses her legal practice in the areas of estate planning, probate and trust administration, real estate, and business matters. She has served as a board member for various local organizations, including the Alexandria Area Chamber of Commerce, the Alexandria Area Community Foundation, Habitat for Humanity’s Homeowner Selection Committee, and the First Lutheran Church Endowment Committee. She enjoys volunteering her time for various programs, including Junior Achievement and Junior Great Books at Garfield Elementary School, Freshman Academy Network, Career Expo, and Citizens Academy Mock Trial at Alexandria Area High School. Additionally, she serves as a Sunday school teacher at First Lutheran Church and is a baseball coach through Community Education.
Kelly resides near Alexandria with her husband, Neil, and their three children. She loves long walks with her dog, reading, being active outside with her family, and spending time on the lakes in the summer, but not in the winter (she will take a rain check on the ice fishing).
